Huntsville Restaurant Week 2018

Huntsville Restaurant Week is a 10 day celebration of the unique, local food scene in our city. Dine at one of over 50 participating restaurants August 10-19th and try a featured item at a special fixed price. This is a great time to check out a restaurant you’ve been meaning to visit or try something new at your long-time favorite spot. You’re not limited to their special menu so you can still order from the regular menu as well. It all boils down to getting out and supporting our incredible local food scene, particularly during these 10 days.

The Huntsville/Madison County Convention & Visitors Bureau invited us to their Blogger Restaurant Week Preview a couple weeks ago, and we couldn’t have been more thrilled!

Honest Coffee

As soon as we saw our schedule for the weekend and that Honest Coffee was the first stop, we knew it was going to be a good day.

Honest Coffee Restaurant Week Specials

We HAD to try at least one of the two Restaurant Week specials and decided on the Curious George acai bowl. They’ve taken their famous acai base and topped it with bananas, apples, grapes, Craisins, cacao nibs, and peanut butter. This is the perfect example of how a delicious, indulgent treat can also be extremely nutritious. Pair it with the peanut butter mocha for a true Restaurant Week special for only $10!

Royal Rose Diner

We had never been to Royal Rose Diner before, and by looking at their extensive menu online (think Cheesecake Factory) we were unsure exactly what to expect. It shouldn’t have surprised us, but they have a huge Restaurant Week menu, and our group got to try it ALL! From saganaki (fried cheese), to Philly cheesesteak nachos, to a huge array of desserts, our table was FULL of food. In all seriousness, I wonder what the other guests were thinking as plate after plate came rushing out of the kitchen at record speed, and we all jumped up to get “the shot”.

This is not particularly a place for vegetarians, as we were only able to sample a couple of the Restaurant Week specials, but I will say they were kind enough to let us order a veggie panini from their regular menu, and it was fantastic! They also serve breakfast ALL day. And did I mention they open at 5:30am? Every. Single. Day.

Nick’s Ristorante

For dinner we headed down to south Huntsville to a little gem tucked in the corner of a strip mall. Nick’s Ristorante was another spot we had not experienced before, but after our fantastic meal we were wishing we had tried it sooner. On this particular evening they had a Frank Sinatra impersonator, and we could have sworn we were somehow transported to Italy.

We started out with wine and had a sampling of their fantastic fried green tomatoes. The Caprese salad was cool and refreshing and the perfect dish before indulging in our main course.

Their Restaurant Week special will be the Rotolo Carne di Maiale, which consists of pork roulade filled with sun dried tomatoes, spinach, pine nuts, and mozzarella topped with a balsamic glaze. We had the pleasure of meeting Nick himself, who told us to choose what we wanted off the menu. After much deliberating between a pasta dish and eggplant parmesan, we both went with the latter.

The eggplant parmesan was hearty and flavorful, and we paired ours with the special of the night, mushroom risotto. Risotto is something we typically don’t make at home so we jump at the chance when a restaurant has it on their menu.

For dessert we knew we had to try the baked Alaska. After all, we were dining with a group of bloggers so it’s only fitting to order a dessert that literally gets set on fire. You can’t go wrong with ice cream and cake topped with meringue. Yum!

Remember, our preview only showcases a very small group of the restaurants participating in Restaurant Week this year. You can find the entire list here, along with each restaurant’s specials for the week.
