Huntsville has recently developed a taste for a new, extremely healthy, nutrient rich breakfast. We believe the reason for the sudden acai popularity is tied to the fact that it’s a superfood masked as a delicious treat. Haven’t you always wished it was socially acceptable to eat dessert at 8am?
Acai berries (pronounced ah-sigh-EE) are similar in size and shape to blueberries but pack more antioxidants. Frozen acai puree is blended together with fruits such as bananas or strawberries, a little almond milk (or liquid of your choice), and topped with sliced fruit, granola, coconut flakes, peanut butter, cacao nibs, honey, etc.
Intrigued and wanting to try one for yourself soon? These are our favorite places to get these tasty bowls in Huntsville:
Honest Coffee Roasters serves up several variations of acai bowls with different toppings. We usually go with the BomBom which includes granola, bananas, strawberries, almonds, cacao nibs, and local honey. Adding peanut butter makes the BomBom even more delicious.
Alchemy also offers a fantastic acai bowl topped with blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, bananas, and chia seeds. As with everything served at Alchemy, the attention to detail is on point. The presentation makes it impossible not to snap a picture for your Insta before indulging.
If you’re feeling ambitious, you can make your own at home! We really love the Sambazon acai puree, which you can find at Whole Foods and Publix. Pinterest is filled with hundreds of recipes; you’re sure to find one that will make you and your taste buds happy.
What do you say Huntsville? Will acai bowls be the new biscuits and gravy? 😉
